New Songs for Fame Remake

The remake of the movie Fame will contain only two of the songs from the original. Those two songs are "Fame" (of course) and "Out Here On My Own."

The storyline for the film, from Lakeshore Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, remains the same as the original: following the competitive students at New York's School of Performing Arts from their freshman to their senior years.

Fame Remake Additional Information

MGM has compiled most of the lead cast for its accelerating remake of the 1980 musical "Fame." Kristy Flores, Paul Iacono, Paul McGill, Naturi Naughton, Kay Panabaker, Kherington Payne, Collins Pennie, Walter Perez and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle have joined the ensemble.

Flores plays Rosie, a dancer; Iacano ("The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie") plays Neil, a filmmaker; McGill plays Kevin, a gay dancer; Naughton ("Notorious") plays Denise, a multitalented classical pianist; Panabaker ("CSI: Crime Scene Investigation") plays Jenny, an actor; Payne ("So You Think You Can Dance") plays Alice, a ballerina; Pennie ("Half Nelson") plays Malik, an artist; Perez ("Friday Night Lights") plays Victor, a musician; and Perez de Tagle ("Hannah Montana") plays Joy Moy. Dekker would play Marco, a singer.

Debbie Allen, who played Lydia in the original, is rumored to be in line for a cameo, though not as the same character.

The film is expected to begin filming in late November to make its Sept. 25 release date. MGM will distribute "Fame" in North America, while Lakeshore will handle international distribution and release the soundtrack.

Harm's Way

Circus Theatricals will present a limited run of HARM'S WAY in New York beginning October 18, just off the heels of their acclaimed LA production. Harm's Way will play in rotating repertory with, also penned by Bitterman, at the 45th Street Theatre (354 W. 45th Street). The director is Broadway and television director Steve Zuckerman. It stars Jack Stehlin, Wendy Makkena, Eric Pierpoint, Josh Allen, Ben Bowen and Sarah Foret.

HARM'S WAY tells the tale of a career Army prosecutor who investigates a possible war crime against Iraqi civilians by U.S troops - while at the same time fighting to save his troubled daughter here on American soil. Previews begin October 11 with opening night slated for October 18.

The Smurfs: Season One, Vol. Two

According to DVD Talk, Debbie Allen is featured in a featurette on the Smurfs season one, volume two DVD.

Here is the information about the featurette:

The Emmy-nominated series “Dexter,” a drama about forensic detective Dexter Morgan, who also happens to be a serial killer, returned for its third season Sept. 28th on Showtime. Joining David Zayas and Lauren Velez in their crime fighting efforts is Jimmy Smits, who’ll play Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado. Also joining the cast will be Valerie Cruz and Jesse Borrego in a multi-episode role.

New Fame Remake Information

Thomas Dekker is hoping to learn how to fly. The "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" star is in negotiations to play one of the leads in the remake of the 1980s musical "Fame," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Dekker is eyeing the role of Marco, a kid from a blue-collar background who has the desire and talent to act, but needs to beat out several thousand others to prove himself in a New York high school for the arts. Other characters in the school include a slam poet, a sheltered pianist, a salsa musician, an aspiring filmmaker and a shapely dancer.
