Like the character she plays, Debbie Allen is a remarkable lady! Not only does she astounded Fame fans wit her amazing dancing ability, but she choreographs all the dance routines for the other stars, and sings her own powerful vocals to the original music we hear in Fame. She acted in, choreographed and produced the stage show that toured Britain in late 1982.
While studying for her BA degree, Debbie filled her spare time with ballet classes, and one of her first roles was on Broadway - the goal of every American performer. From such great beginnings, Debbie went on to major roles in such successful shows as Roots: The Next Generations and Guys and Dolls, as well as a whole host of others.
Lydia Grant, the character Debbie plays in Fame, is a little like her in that she insists on the best every time, and never settles for anything else. Lydia drives her students on until they reach perfection - and only then is she satisfied. And although they might resent such a powerful driving force, all Lydia's students will thank her from the bottom of their hearts when, at last, they reach the fame they all seek!
