Cynthia (Cindy) Gibb was born and raised in Connecticut, and started out on her showbusiness career at the age of fourteen as a model. A month after she left high school graduation she exchanged modelling for acting, and joined the cast of New York-based soap opera Search for Tomorrow.

“Being a part of that show was a wonderful learning experience,” says Cindy, referring to the two years she spent with the show, but when she heard that there was an opening on Fame she decided to try out for it.

“I wanted it bad,” said Cindy, “because what I really want to do is sing and dance. I did a screen test in New York and I loved my character, drama student Holly Laird. I was then asked to fly to Los Angeles and test for the role. After that I was asked to test for my singing and dancing abilities, which I did. When I heard that I had the role . . well, I think it was one of the few times I was speechless!

“I'm so excited about being part of the cast of Fame I still can't believe it,” says Cindy. “I keep thinking I'll wake up and it will all turn out to be a dream! I loved the Fame movie and I love the series. I want to sing and dance on Fame until I'm too old for the role!”
